Clone REA494 recognizes the human osteoclast-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor (OSCAR) antigen, a 45 kDa single-pass type I membrane protein also known as polymeric immunoglobulin receptor 3 (PIgR-3). OSCAR is a member of the leukocyte receptor complex (LRC) protein family and is an important bone-specific regulator of osteoclast differentiation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. OSCAR expression is detected in preosteoclasts or mature osteoclasts. Osteoclasts are terminally differentiated leukocytes that erode t
