Notch1 is a 300 kDa member of the Notch family of type I transmembrane glycoproteins. Following cleavage in the Golgi, Notch forms a heterodimer composed of a 180-200 kDa disulfide-linked extracellular domain, and a 120 kDa membrane-bound intracellular portion. Upon ligand binding the latter is cleaved to form the notch intracellular domain transcription factor.
