Clone REA401 recognizes the human, mouse, and rat ventricular isoform of the myosin light chain 2 (MLC2v) antigen. Myosin is a hexamer composed of two myosin heavy chains and four myosin light chains. In the heart two different forms of the myosin light chain are expressed, the atrial form (MLC2a) and the ventricular form (MLC2v). MLC2v is restricted to the ventricular segment of the heart tube at embryonic day 8 in rodents, suggesting that its ventricular specification occurs relatively early during mammalian cardiogenesis.
