SLAM family member 7 (SLAMF7), also known as CD319, is a self-ligand receptor protein primarily expressed on immune cells, including natural killer (NK) cells and B cells. It plays an important role in immune cell activation, signaling, and regulation. SLAMF7 activates pathways such as Src kinase and phospholipase C-gamma (PLC-γ) in NK cells, promoting cytolytic activity and secretion of cytokines like lymphotoxin A and TNF-α in B cells, which support proliferation and immune responses. SLAMF7 is located on chromosome 1 and the protein is involved in processes like T cell activation and natural killer cell regulation. Clinically, SLAMF7 is a key marker for plasma cells and malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma (MM), distinguishing it from traditional markers by being more stable. It is also the target of the therapeutic antibody elotuzumab used in MM treatment.
