Proteasome activator complex subunit 1, also known as PSME1, is a protein that is encoded by the PSME1 gene in humans. It is a subunit of the 26S proteasome, which is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator. PSME1 contributes to endopeptidase activator activity and acts upstream of or within antigen processing and presentation of exogenous antigen. High nuclear expression of PSME1 has been associated with poor survival in soft tissue leiomyosarcomas, suggesting that the proteasome could be exploited as a possible novel target for the treatment of these tumors.,PSME1 is a gene that encodes a subunit of the 11S regulator, also known as the proteasome activator complex. This complex plays an important role in the processing of class I MHC peptides as part of the immune response. Studies have shown that PSME1 is overexpressed in various types of cancer, including ovarian cancer, skin cutaneous melanoma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and prostate cancer. High expression of PSME1 has been associated with poor prognosis and metastasis in some cancers, such as soft tissue sarcomas and gastric cancer. The upregulation of PSME1 may contribute to tumor progression and immune evasion by altering antigen presentation.Additionally, PSME1 has been proposed as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for certain cancers.Overall, the available evidence suggests that PSME1 plays a significant role in cancer biology and could be a useful prognostic indicator and therapeutic target in some malignancies.
