Progestagen associated endometrial protein (Glycodelin) is a secreted dimeric glycoprotein of the lipocalin family that plays a pivotal role in human reproduction and immunomodulation. Expressed in the endometrium under progesterone influence, it exists as several glycoforms—including glycodelin-A, -F, -S, and -C—whose specific glycosylation patterns dictate their biological activities, such as inhibiting sperm-egg binding and regulating trophoblast invasion. Glycodelin-A is particularly noted for its immunosuppressive and pro-apoptotic effects on immune cells, which are essential for maintaining fetomaternal tolerance. Clinically, altered glycodelin expression is associated with endometriosis and hormone-related cancers. In endometrial carcinoma, it is proposed to act as a tumor suppressor by promoting a more differentiated, less malignant cellular phenotype.
