CD7 molecule (CD7) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily expressed on thymocytes, peripheral T cells, natural killer cells, and early hematopoietic progenitors. It functions as a costimulatory molecule in T-cell activation and cytokine production by binding its ligand, K12/SECTM1, and signaling through the PI3K pathway. CD7 is a critical diagnostic marker in clinical hematopathology, as it is highly expressed in immature T-cell neoplasms such as T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma. Conversely, the loss of CD7 expression on skin-infiltrating T cells is a well-established diagnostic feature of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, including mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome.
