Expressed from the pre-B to memory B-cell stages, it regulates calcium influx essential for B-cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation. CD20 forms signaling complexes with the B-cell receptor, MHC class II, and other surface molecules to modulate immune responses. Clinically, MS4A1 is a critical target in the treatment of B-cell malignancies, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, where anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies like rituximab are used to mediate cytotoxicity.
