C-C motif chemokine ligand 11 (CCL11), also known as eotaxin-1, is a secreted CC chemokine that serves as a potent and selective chemoattractant for eosinophils. It primarily exerts its biological effects by binding to the G protein-coupled receptor CCR3, though it also exhibits activity at CCR2 and CCR5. CCL11 is a fundamental mediator of type 2 immune responses and is responsible for the recruitment of eosinophils to mucosal tissues during inflammation. Clinically, elevated levels of CCL11 are well-established in allergic and eosinophilic diseases, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. Furthermore, increased circulating CCL11 has been linked to age-related cognitive decline, reduced hippocampal neurogenesis, and various forms of neurological impairment.
