Autophagy related 10 (ATG10) is a protein crucial for autophagy, a cellular process that degrades and recycles cellular components. ATG10 acts as an E2-like enzyme, facilitating the conjugation of ATG12 to ATG5, which is essential for autophagosome formation. It is involved in various biological processes, including the regulation of dsDNA-induced innate immune responses and the suppression of HCV replication by promoting complete autophagy. The protein has two isoforms, ATG10 and ATG10S, which differ by a 36-amino acid fragment and exhibit distinct effects on HCV replication and autophagy flux. ATG10 is also implicated in adenovirus-mediated cell lysis and has roles in cancer cell invasion and proliferation, as well as bacterial infections.
