Adipogenesis regulatory factor (ADIRF) is a small secreted protein highly enriched in mature adipocytes that serves as a key regulator of fat cell development. It promotes adipogenic differentiation by stimulating the transcription of master regulators, including PPARG and CEBPA, particularly during the early stages of preadipocyte maturation. By upregulating these transcriptional pathways, ADIRF facilitates the formation of white adipose tissue. Beyond its role in adipogenesis, ADIRF expression is modulated by epigenetic mechanisms and has been implicated in the malignant transformation of bronchial epithelial cells. High expression levels of ADIRF are also associated with increased resistance to cisplatin-based chemotherapy in certain cancer contexts.
