Clone MAR-1 detects the alpha subunit of the murine high-affinity Fc receptor for IgE. The receptor is composed of one alpha-, one beta-, and two disulfid-linked gamma subunits, of which the alpha subunit binds IgE. FcεRIα is expressed on mast and basophilic cells and is up-regulated in the presence of IgE. The FcεRI complex plays an important role in triggering IgE-mediated allergic reactions.
