Clone VIM5 recognizes CD87, a 36–38 kDa GPI-anchored cell-surface receptor. CD87, also known uPAR, binds uPA and thus facilitating the catalytic C domain of the uPA to come in close proximity of membrane bound plasminogen. uPA is a serine protease, which converts plasminogen into plasmin which in-turn is involved in digestion of various extracellular matrix proteins.
