Clone REA221 recognizes CD82, a member of the four transmembrane domain, tetraspanin family. Tetraspanins contain short, cytoplasmic amino and carboxyl termini and two extracellular loops of unequal sizes and can be distinguished from other membrane proteins, with same topology, due to conserved residues within the transmembrane domains and in the larger extracellular loops.
