Clone REA1117 recognizes the mouse CD79b antigen, a 35–40kD single-pass type I membrane protein also known as B cell antigen receptor complex-associated protein beta chain (Igβ chain). The heterodimeric CD79 molecule is composed of an α chain (CD79a) and a β chain (CD79b) and is associated with surface immunoglobulins to form the B cell receptor. The CD79a/CD79b heterodimer facilitates the differentiation of pre–B cells from pro–B cells, surface expression of surface Ig, signal transduction following antigen recognition, and endocytosis of recognized antigens.
