Clone REA1184 recognizes the mouse CD36 antigen, which is a 88 kDa member of the class B scavenger receptor family. CD36 is not only expressed by platelets, but also by erythroid precursors, monocytes and macrophages, certain endothelial and specialized epithelial cells. On platelets, CD36 recognition of oxidized LDL contributes to their activation and provides a link between hyperlipidemia, oxidant stress, and the prothrombotic state.
