Clone REA388 recognizes an alloantigen of the mouse CD244 antigen, a Single-pass type I membrane protein also known as 2B4. CD244 is a receptor belonging to the CD2 subfamily of the Ig superfamily and is involved in non-MHC dependent cytotoxicity. Expression of CD244 is found on all NK cells, γδ T cells, basophils, and monocytes as well as a subset of memory-phenotype CD8+ αβ T cells. The ligand of CD244 is CD48, which is expressed on all hematopoietic cells. CD244 is primarily involved in inhibiting NK cell functions.
