Clone REA276 recognizes the CD239 antigen, a type I membrane glycoprotein also known as basal cell adhesion molecule (BCAM) or Lutheran blood group glycoprotein (LU), which are two alternatively spliced variants of a single immunoglobulin superfamily protein that differ in the length of their cytoplasmic tails. Mouse and human CD239 is highly conserved at the amino acid sequence level. CD239 has a wide tissue distribution and is closely associated with the basal layer of cells in epithelia and the endothelium of blood vessel walls.
