Clone REA822 recognizes the mouse CD207 antigen, also known as Langerin, which is a 48 kDa transmembrane type II C-type lectin containing a single carbohydrate recognition domain in its extracellular region. Langerin is specifically expressed on epidermal Langerhans cells and dermal CD103+ dendritic cells. It displays Ca2+-dependent binding specificity for mannose, N-acetyl-glucosamine, and fucose and is involved in antigen recognition, uptake, and transport to the Birbeck granules, whose formation is dependent on Langerin expression.
