CD207, also known as Langerin is a 48kDa transmembrane type II C-type lectin containing a single carbohydrate recognition domain in its extracellular region. Langerin is specifically expressed on epidermal Langerhans cells and dermal CD103+ dendritic cells. It displays Ca2+-dependent binding specificity for mannose, N-acetyl-glucosamine, and fucose and is involved in antigen recognition, uptake and transport to the Birbeck granules, whose formation is dependent on Langerin expression. The CD207 epitope shows trypsin as well as collagenase sensitivity.
