Clone REA1475 recognizes the human CD1a antigen, a 40 kDa type I membrane glycoprotein also known as T6 or Leu-6 which is a member of the immunglobulin superfamily. It shares functional and structural similarities with MHC I class molecules and is associated with β2-microglobulin. CD1a plays a role in antigen presentation by binding lipid and glycolipid antigens and presenting them to T-cell receptors on natural killer T-cells. CD1a is expressed on Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, and cortical thymocytes.
