Clone REA589 recognizes the human CD16b antigen, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein known as low affinity immunoglobulin gamma Fc region receptor III-B. CD16 is expressed in two different isoforms, FcγRIIIa (CD16a), which is found on human NK cells, macrophages, and mast cells, and FcγRIIIb (CD16b) Fc receptors, that bind to the Fc portion of IgG antibodies which mediates NK cell activating.
