Clone REA114 recognizes CD123, the alpha chain of the IL-3 receptor. CD123 is 60–70 kDa membrane glycoprotein and interacts in mice with common beta chain (betac) and beta IL-3 subunits to form functional heterodimeric IL-3 receptors. CD123 alone can bind IL-3 with low affinity, however a high affinity binding is displayed by the heterodimeric forms. Besides ligand binding, the alpha chain of IL-3R was also shown to be necessary for the activation of STAT-5.
