Clone REA1453 recognizes the carbohydrate antigen CA 19-9, a glycoprotein used as a tumour marker. In pancreatic carcinoma, the CA19-9 level is very high. It occurs physiologically in serum and is sometimes found in very high concentrations in secretions from mucosal cells (breast milk, sputum, bronchial mucus, seminal fluid, gastric juice, urine ...) and also in low concentrations in blood serum/plasma.
